I was born on February, 7th, 1977 in Opava. I live in Brno with my parents since 1981. My mother is a basic school teacher, my father is a docent on Technical University of Brno. I have no siblings.

Education and jobs:

I'm interested in programming since I was nine. Recently, I was programming games on 64 kB RAM computers (see Game Development). Later, I started to develop some sophisticated programs, mainly on PCs with DOS, since 1991 Windows and since 1999 Linux. Now my primary interest is a computer linguistics, mainly machine translation, then computer graphics and data compression. You can see some of my software here.

After my graduation on Faculty of Informatics I was working as an postgradual student on some linguistic projects. The most important is a development of a special dictionary of meaning called WordNet. In that area, I participated in Balkanet project, during which the Balkan languages were to be integrated in WordNet. Czech side, which already had experience with it, helped other participants with WordNet development. One of the results is also a program for editing WordNet databases called VisDic, which I helped to develop as a lead (and actualy the only one :-)) programmer.

Nowadays, I work at Lingea company, the leading provider of computer dictionaries in Czech Republic. My main task is to analyze natural language. Here, we have developed an successful disambiguator (a tool for solving word ambiguity), speller and the program for grammatical control of Czech texts. However, Czech is not the only language I am familiar with. Although I can speak only English besides Czech, I know very well the word-formation of twelve mainly European languages including German, French and Spanish.

As concern my hobbies, I am playing soccer. I am also listening and composing music, watching movies and hockey, and I am interested in the maiden voyage of Titanic as well.
